How a Knife Can Help You Start a Friction Fire

50 Campfires used the Kershaw Link to help accomplish this outdoor task.

It's the age-old question. Can you start a camp fire with nothing but friction? The folks at 50 Campfire recently showed readers the best way to execute the bow drill technique. And they even included tips that are sometimes overlooked in other tutorial videos and articles.

To help with the job, these campers took advantage of a Kershaw Link, a popular made-in-the-USA blade that works well as an outdoor knife. In this demonstration, the author used the 3.25-inch blade to carve a notch into the fireboard, which is where the coal forms. After each step, you will have started a small fire.

Have you mastered this outdoor skill? And what knife do you use in the outdoors?
